Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume stands for the huge task of Dowden's middle life—the translation of Goethe's 'West-Eastern Divan.' This is a poem, as Mrs. Dowden observes in the foreword, that is known to few English readers. It is the fruit of Goethe's Indian Summer, the last word of his cheerful and composed philosophy of life. It was written between 1814 and 1819 and was inspired not only by Goethe's correspondence with Marianne von Willemer, but also by the von Hammer's translation of Hafez' poems. Speaking of translations, Mr. Dowden's translation is overwhelmingly good. No man is so hard to translate as Goethe, and certainly no English writer has succeeded with him better — if as well — than Prof. Dowden. The best test is that many of the lines seem as inevitable as they do in the original; for instance, "that haunting felicity, always. Impossible doth seem the rose, and Inconceivable the nightingale." On the whole, the contemplation of Prof. Dowden's work leaves a certain sadness in the mind of the reader. Dowden always wanted to dedicate himself to poetry, but the necessities of life Intervened, as they so often do, and he had to choose another master. He says in a letter, "One of my afflictions is a theory that I could do my best work in verse, and the circumstance that every year my lectures lead me to accumulating a quantity of material that is pleasant property for my outer mind, but is positive injury to the soul within the soul."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger Housden, author of the best-selling Ten Poems to Change Your Life, celebrates the growing popularity of mystical poetry with this beautiful compilation from the Christian contemplative tradition. Although the writings of the Sufi mystics (Rumi and Hafez) and the Indian mystics (Mirabai and Kabir) have reached a wide audience in recent years, the poetry of the Christian mystics has yet to be discovered by a general audience. For Lovers of God Everywhere, a collection of nearly 100 poems from both historic and contemporary writers, heralds the reemergence of the great spiritual voices of the Christian tradition—a tradition with its own love songs to God, cries of longing, and bliss of union. In this collection, Roger introduces us to some of the foremost poets of both the Eastern and Western Christian traditions. He takes us from the wisdom of the Desert Fathers to the passion of St. Augustine, through the medieval ecstasies of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Catherine of Siena, to the subtleties of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila; and on to contemporary voices such as Rainer Maria Rilke, T.S. Eliot, and Mary Oliver. Roger’s insightful commentary on each poem inspires us to take its words more deeply into our souls and shows how the mystical tradition transcends sectarian divides and speaks to the heart of humanity.

Book excerpt: God Is Love is written so that fear may be dispelled and all may discover and know God's perfect love for each of us, a love that transcends all religions and ultimately leads to universal salvation. God Is Love is the most powerful book in years. It is a must-read for persons of every religion and even for the atheist. It is especially uplifting and inspirational for the marginalized and alienated and everyone who has been condemned at one time or another. God Is Love definitively answers the age-old questions pertaining to the culpability and eternal fate of those involved in the crucifixion and why the cross was God's chosen mechanism for His loving, salvific plan that includes each and every being of creation. Through a diversity of religious scripture and textual evidence, God Is Love portrays the true nature of God and establishes the fact that everyone has a place in His heart even when society and/or religious institutions attempt to limit God's love and the power of the crucifixion and resurrection. After reading God Is Love, your life will be changed forever and even those who have been alienated from God will return to seek refuge in His everlasting agape love. God Is Love provides much-needed love and hope in an era of hate and doubt!

Book excerpt: When a flower fairy, eager to experience as many emotions as possible, decides to switch places with a young human child whom she has come to love, nothing could have prepared her for what she would experience, being born of human parents and growing up in a world of straight lines and harsh corners ... of sorrow, grief, human ignorance, and even-more-human judgement. Although the memory of the fairy realm and her former life quickly fades, she never quite fits in, feeling a connection to the natural world that always sets her apart. With insight and wisdom born of that forgotten existence, she goes about the human business of growing up, getting married, and raising a family of her own–blissfully unaware of everything she had lost. And then, out of nowhere, a sentence pops into her head, fully formed, and everything changes: “I have lived most of my life as a flower fairy, a daisy flower fairy to be precise.” These words start it all in motion for Author Fran Laurie Olsen, bringing things back to the surface for her, and beginning a journey of self discovery that puts everything into a new perspective. Harmony and Creativity, Beauty and Love, Nature and the not-yet-visible world ... all these things and more are connected, and impacted by how we view them ... and how we view ourselves. Fran Laurie Olsen offers insights and guidance that will lighten your spirit, put you in touch with the natural word, and help you put all the pieces together in a way that finally makes sense, with her enchanting and insightful offering: Soul Journeys Series: A Fairy’s Tale. transformationspapillon.com

Marian Dunlea’s BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach provides a theoretical and practical guide for working with early developmental trauma. This interdisciplinary approach explores the interconnection of body, mind and psyche, offering a masterful tool for restoring balance and healing developmental trauma. BodyDreaming is a somatically focused therapeutic method, drawing on the findings of neuroscience, analytical psychology, attachment theory and trauma therapy. In Part I, Dunlea defines BodyDreaming and its origins, placing it in the context of a dysregulated contemporary world. Part II explains how the brain works in relation to the BodyDreaming approach: providing an accessible outline of neuroscientific theory, structures and neuroanatomy in attunement, affect regulation, attachment patterns, transference and countertransference, and the resolution of trauma throughout the body. In Part III, through detailed transcripts from sessions with clients, Dunlea demonstrates the positive impact of BodyDreaming on attachment patterns and developmental trauma. This somatic approach complements and enhances psychobiological, developmental and psychoanalytic interventions. BodyDreaming restores balance to a dysregulated psyche and nervous system that activates our innate capacity for healing, changing our default response of "fight, flight or freeze" and creating new neural pathways. Dunlea’s emphasis on attunement to build a restorative relationship with the sensing body creates a core sense of self, providing a secure base for healing developmental trauma. Innovative and practical, and with a foreword by Donald E. Kalsched, BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: An Embodied Therapeutic Approach will be essential reading for psychotherapists, analytical psychologists and therapists with a Jungian background, arts therapists, dance and movement therapists, and body workers interested in learning how to work with both body and psyche in their practices.

Featuring essays from both established and emerging scholars, critics, and artists, the book reflects on what might be termed an "accord" between contemporary art and religion. It explores the common strategies contemporary artists employ in the interface between religion and contemporary art practice. It also includes case studies to provide more in-depth treatments of specific artists grappling with themes such as ritual, abstraction, mythology, the body, popular culture, science, liturgy, and social justice, among other themes. It is a must-read resource for working artists, critics, and scholars in this field, and an invitation to new voices "curious" about its promises and possibilities.
